The ETC-LUSI is supporting the European Environment Agency (EEA) in monitoring the land use/land cover change in Europe and analyzing the environmental consequences. This change is strongly connected with political decisions like European directives and national laws and we assess the efficiency of these instruments and give recommendations to the Agency. Our experience is based on a good partnership of high level experts dealing with data base management and environmental assessments. We are able to provide expertise in regional assessments for rural, mountainous, urban or coastal areas and analyzing the impact of structural and cohesion funds, the CAP expenditures or the interdependencies between biofuel production and Land use changes, only to mention some activities.

The ETC is embedded and part of the European Environmental Information and Observation Network (Eionet) and is cooperating with other European institutions like the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Eurostat (Eurostat) and the different DGs of the European Commission

As consortium of 12 partners our added value is our network. With experts from 10 countries and 15 nationalities we have regional and local expertise available and good contacts to find answers for the farthest corners in Europe. Additionally all partners are involved in other national and international research projects and can provide the newest research results to the EEA.

A substantial part of our work is dedicated to collect, manage, analyze and display land use related spatial data and we have therefore strong and long lasting experiences in data management, quality assurance and quality The ETC is heavily involved in developing open source solutions to follow the Inspire directive and the European policy on SEIS to incorporate standalone systems and software solutions into a network of distributed recourses and to simplify the data access for the public.
